About Department

Department of Education of Sir Gurudas College strives to make sure that student after graduating are able to lead their lives as respectable members of the society. The Department of Education was Started in the year 2004. The first Lecturer of this Dept. was Prof. Anita Chowdhury and after 6 years Dr. Ratna Lodh the present HOD of the joined in the College and took the charge of the Dept. In due course of time the Dept. underwent many changes but gradually it developed and now it is one of the main stream Dept. of the college with a huge strength and 4 Faculty members.

Library Facility:

  • With the facility of central Library of the college.
  • Department /Seminar Library also offers its students some reference books from the departmental book-club.
  • Preparing students to opt various reputed universities for higher education.

Strength of the Department

  1. Dedication of the teachers for the upliftment of the students.
  2. Qualified teaching staff.
  3. There is always a friendly and cordial relation between the teachers and students in the department.
  4. We have always sufficient numbers of students in the department.
  5. The subject has always been significant and has good academic values in the present and future prospects of knowledge in the academic world.
  6. Students' involvement in extensive programmes.
  7. The department uses audio-video media to make the works of literature come alive and helps students relate their course work with experiential knowledge through visits to screenings of plays.
  8. The faculty has adopted varied teaching methodologies to create a receptive and non-oppressive classroom environment.
  9. Special remedial classes are held for weaker students, with additional attention during tutorials to support their learning needs.
  10. Audio-video media is used to enhance students' understanding and connection to their coursework.

Weakness of the Department

  1. Student-teacher ratio is high, particularly among general students.
  2. Due to heavy class loads, research activities among teachers are not up to the mark.
  3. Economic backwardness of the students limits their internet access, hampering the blended mode of teaching-learning.
  4. Parents and guardians are not conscious about the higher education of the students.
  5. Language barriers prevent students from accessing 100% of the knowledge as expected.

Opportunities of the Department

  1. Growing enrolment in the department.
  2. Potential to introduce a P.G. course in the future after fulfilling necessary requirements.
  3. One or two faculty members are appointed as examiners, paper setters, and moderators in university exams.
  4. Opportunity to open a Guidance and Counseling Laboratory and Psychological Lab.
  5. Efforts may be made for the sanction of new posts for full-time teachers as per CBCS and CCF norms.
  6. Opportunity to open computer labs as per new CCF norms.

Challenges of the Department

  1. Securing research projects from UGC in the near future.
  2. Encouraging students to qualify in various competitive examinations.
  3. Organizing departmental seminars and workshops funded by UGC.
  4. Controlling dropouts among students.
  5. Encouraging students to use the English language for communication.
  6. Desire to form a Departmental Alumni Trust.
  7. To enlarge the Departmental Library.
  8. To organize more Departmental National Seminars and Workshops.
  9. Improvisation in the pedagogical use of ICT-enabled teaching–learning, balanced with traditional tutoring techniques.
